I'm running a Modern Jive teacher's training courses starting on Sunday July 25th 2010.

This course is primarily for our own own teachers. However I will take people who aren't in competition with our own nights. There are limited numbers and I only have 2 places left.

You will get trained on the theory and practice of teaching MJ to beginners and running lessons. The first half day is a "primer" for the practical session and has almost no dancing. I find it really interesting, but it does contain a Powerpoint presentation - I'm such a salesman! You will get a chance to have a go with the equipment including hearing yourself on the microphone as you will practice the first bit of the lesson up to the end of the demonstration of "tonight's routine". This "primer" sets up the course and briefs you on the practical work and practice you need to do to become a great teacher

When we first started these courses we had a practical session immediately after the theory - it was more like a reality game show where you had to learn quickly and perform off the cuff - all we needed was Brucie! We now give people time to prepare: to paraphrase Louis Pasteur, "Fortune favors the prepared mind" - although, being French he actually said "Dans les champs de l'observation le hasard ne favorise que les esprits préparés".

We've found that people get much more from the course if they have time to prepare in advance. The "primer" session includes clear briefings on what to prepare for the next sessions.

The best thing would probably be to run this as a one week intensive course. But most of us live in the real world of work, family, etc. So we run this course on Sundays in Worthing. The essential session is the "primer" as it sets you up for the course and I will be running that twice. The first "primer" being the 25th and the other "primer" session will run when people who can't make the 25th have compared their diaries.

The following sessions are practical masterclasses and are more of a pick any 3 from 5 half day training sessions although you might want to do all 5 sessions depending on your rate of progress. The final teaching session where you have a live "guinea pig" class to teach is essential - this is on the afternoon of Sunday 19th Sept 2010.

Here is the programme;

Primer 2pm-5.30pm - Sunday 25th July
Practical session 1 - 10am-1.30pm Sunday 22nd Aug
Practical session 2 - 2.30pm-6pm Sunday 22nd Aug
Practical session 3 - 10am-1.30pm Sunday 5th Sept
Practical session 4 - 2.30pm-6pm Sunday 5th Sept
Practical session 5 - 10am-1.30pm Sunday 19th Sept
Final Practical with "Guinea Pig" dance students 2.30pm - 6pm Sunday 19th Sept

N.B. I've left a fairly big gap between the primer and the first session to give us time to schedule a repeat of the primer for those who can't make the first one - or might even like to repeat the primer!

After the more formal course we provide opportunities to practice at our classes and you get coached on your performance, both in advance of the lesson and a session after the lesson.
